Contracting for Projects Involving a Design Architect and Architect of Record

Three architects discuss their experiences working on projects in which they have worked alongside other architecture firms. These architects are also the primary drafters of a new set of documents offered by the AIA Contract Documents program that are geared towards projects involving a Design Architect and Architect of Record.

The panel will discuss common issues that arise when two or more architects provide design services for a common project. The discussion will touch on key issues such as how contracts are structured, how design responsibilities are allocated, whether the design architect must be licensed, how consultants are retained and integrated into the project, and whether the Architect of Record can rely on information provided by the Design Architect. The panel will also give an overview of the new documents offered by the AIA Contract Documents program.
