The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is releasing its revamped Interiors family of documents allowing the architect to account for the risks and responsibilities of designing a building’s interior, while working with contractors and FF&E vendors. Also, the revised contracts are now suitable for use on any type of project beyond commercial, including residential, retail, entertainment and hospitality. Once the 2019 documents are released, the previous editions of the documents can continue to be used for up to 18 months.
Major changes include:
- New document! B254-2019, Standard Form of Architect’s Services: Purchasing Agent Services for Furniture, Furnishings, & Equipment (FF&E), which allows the architect to purchase FF&E on behalf of the owner, if the owner wishes to hand off that responsibility.
- Updated! B152-2019 was revised to be suitable for use on any type of project beyond commercial projects including residential, retail, entertainment and hospitality.
- The modernized Interiors Owner/Vendor document offerings are now easier to understand and use on projects due to the merge of the A151-2007 and the A251-2007, into one document the revised A151-2019, Owner/Vendor for Furniture, Furnishings, and Equipment (FF&E), which describes all the vendor’s obligations.
- The revised A151-2019, the vendor is responsible for all the work associated with furniture, including the sale, delivery, assembly, and installation.
