Interiors & Furniture: Understanding the Design Opportunities & Risks

Elegant living room featuring contemporary furniture, wooden accents, and ample sunlight for a welco.

In this program, we will untangle some of the complexities of interiors practice and discuss current trends from practical, legal, and risk management perspectives. We will discuss how the Uniform Commercial Code impacts the sale of furniture, and how the nuances of that code impact an architect’s services. We will also discuss the variety of ways an architect can be involved in the procurement of furniture, and the risks and opportunities inherent in such involvement. We will explore each of these topics in the context of the AIA’s newly updated interiors family of documents, which includes a new standard form purchase order and a purchasing agent scope of services.
